April Project Spotlight | Spaces for and by First People

This month we’re turning the spotlight on community organisations who are creating spaces for and by First People. Spanning the country, these organisations are providing the opportunity and environment to celebrate culture, pride and art.

Koordak is a non-profit organisation that exists to help and improve the lives of the Aboriginal Community in Ellenbrook and surrounds. With a focus on education, social issues, identity, culture, and tradition, Koordak provides support for Aboriginal people by facilitating cultural and educational programs whilst promoting empowerment, strength and pride.

Donations will be used to keep the existing programs running in 2023.

Sydney Marae Alliance (SMA) was established in 2015 as the result of the merging of three community organisations: Sydney Marae Incorporated, Te Aranganui and Nga Uri o Rahiri. SMA are raising funds to deliver three building projects that will provide infrastructure to strengthen existing community connections, provide local jobs, and support social cohesion.

Donations will be used for the initial pre-construction cost, integrating traditional features into the architecture and a landscape area with totem installations and sculptures.

Blak Pearl is a community-led creative studio in Fitzroy providing a culturally safe environment for local Aboriginal peoples who cannot access mainstream spaces. It is a place to gather and connect, develop and expand on artistic skills, and showcase the artistic outcomes of a talented and underrepresented community.

Donations will be put towards operating costs including staffing, materials, and training, in addition to creative development workshops and events.
