Women Of The Island is web series of short documentaries telling the stories of ordinary Tasmanian women doing extraordinary things. With support from Wide Angle Tasmania, AFTRS, and a generous community we have produced our first three episodes which were released in mid-2017 with great success – over 150 000 views online, screenings at festivals around the world and numerous award nominations. Now we are aiming to produce our next season of episodes but we need a little more help…
Our ambition for this next season is to make ten new films that will tell stories of wonderful and diverse women from all ‘corners’ of Tasmania. These short films will form a rich tapestry of stories that can be enjoyed both individually and as a one hour program. A one hour program of stories is a very appealing package for festivals and other viewing platforms and indeed we’ve already had serious interest from one major festival in screening such a program.
We’ve already pieced together some of the funding necessary to bring this program to reality, and of course we always donate a lot of our own time and resources because we deeply believe in the value of making sure women’s stories get told.
However, to get us over the line we need a little more help. We need money to cover some of the basic costs of producing a film – travel, equipment, shooting and post-production.
The donations raised through this fund will be used directly to produce at least one entire episode of Women Of The Island and if we make more than this target it will go towards further episodes.
The inspiration for this project came from a desire to give women an equal opportunity to be storytellers both behind and in front of the camera, and that these stories be accessible to a wide audience.
To fulfill our goal, these films will be made accessible to watch online for free on our website and other social media platforms, as well as at special event and festival screenings.
We want to share these stories with as many people as possible. We want the voices of Tasmanian women to be heard and to be recorded for historical reference. These stories have value and deserve to be told.
Any donation you make to this project will help us to make this happen. For more information about the project and to watch the first season of films please go to: www.womenoftheisland.com
Thanks so much for your interest and support!
