The project will support a bunch of local Gold Coast artists (with a few blow-ins from Brisbane). WILD WALLS seeks to show gratitude to artists and allow a platform to share works that may have otherwise remained in the studio.

Taking place in November 2020 (date TBC) WILD WALLS will be an afternoon of sights, sounds and arts permeating out of lockdown. Part exhibition, part screening, part rave, WILD WALLS will feature a special welcome to country ceremony, animations, video art, sound, performance, freestyle art wall, teenage DJs and more.

WILD WALLS is for artists, the community and everyone!

THE WALLS ART SPACE was founded in 2013 and is an artist run initiative that is focused on the presentation of current and experimental art in Miami on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

WILD GARDEN, led by Christian Tancred, specialises in bespoke community and cultural development projects and events.

Funds will be used to produce this free ticketed event and to pay all artists an honorarium to show their work. Now more than ever artists and the creative industries need support both morally and financially. We pay for tickets to the movies or footy but not for artists. THE WALLS and WILD GARDEN make a point of supporting artists and eroding inequity for artists however possible. WILD WALLS will pay respects to local Indigenous people with a special welcome ceremony and storytelling showcase by Uncle Steve Cora.

Donations will go to paying artists to exhibit, perform, screen, dance, and to paying artsworkers to support artists to show their work at WILD WALLS.

WILD WALLS is about tending to the collective garden of our creative community and nurturing them with paid opportunities and seriously fun creative outcomes so that everyone can flourish.

Did we mention there will be free snow cones for everyone?

The backstory…THE WALLS usually runs their international exchange MIAMI / MIAMI (with the other MIAMI in Florida USA) in November however it has been postponed due to Covid-19. Our response was to put on a local Miami get-together…so we’ve decided to hibernate with WILD GARDEN over Winter and to bring you WILD WALLS in Spring.

We’re counting on you to bring the sunshine and share the good times!

The Walls Art Space, located in Miami on Queensland’s Gold Coast is a regional Artist Run Initiative (A.R.I). The Walls was founded by artists to support artists to develop new skills, make new work and engage with new peers and audiences. The Walls’ aim is to serve as a hub of creative practice, critical dialogue and innovative thinking around contemporary art. The Walls’ mission is to connect people with current and experimental art on the Gold Coast with a vision to provide transformative art experiences and enrich the Australian cultural landscape. Since 2013 The Walls has developed a permanent exhibition space in the beach-side suburb of Miami that has become an essential destination for art and cultural experience on the Gold Coast. The Walls’ annual program focus is artist centred and is dedicated to the creation of monthly curated exhibitions, a local artist in residence studio program, an international exchange program (with the other Miami in Florida U.S.A.), event series, screenings, artist talks, publications and joint and off-site programs. The Walls is an incorporated association and runs in a not-for-profit organisation.
