In 2018 House of Sand, with with the support of STCSA and YOU will bring to Adelaide (and then the world) a forgotten masterwork. Newly relevant in the current post-truth world of Trump and Putin, Bright World spear-tackles themes of state intelligence, scientific and political truth, and identity politics.
A play for those who like their theatre smart, angry and real. Or just love to see the best artists SA has to offer, tackling huge characters and important ideas.
The premier season will be held at the Queens Theatre Adelaide in September/October 2018, meaning preparatory work has already begun, and development and rehearsal will be in full swing by Mid ’18.
Welcome The Bright World is near-premonitory in its relevance to today’s alarming political climate, and is a sadly neglected play in the cannon of Australia’s greatest dramatist.
The time is ripe for a new production, and as Australia’s hot-house of creative innovation we want to bring it to Adelaide audiences first.
The project also represents an important milestone for House of Sand as a company — to return to text-driven theatre, and bring work to a large audience — and for the amazing artists involved to challenge themselves and bring you their best. In supporting the project you’re also supporting a large ensemble of SA artists to take the next steps in their careers. Bright World will not be possible without support from a range of sources.
We want your help with just 10% of the total budget. Little enough, but enough to make all the difference!
We’re seeking your help to build sets, clothe characters, fit out our beautiful Queens Theatre right, and to help pay some of SA’s most talented what they’re worth.
With your support we can bring to you, and all of Adelaide, a show that is polished, professional and packs a perfect punch of ideas — bringing together the best of the Main Stage and experimental theatre traditions for SA’s famously adventurous audience. And we can make sure that we do it at a price that’s affordable for anyone who wants to see great theatre!
