Nov 2019, precious creative development with 6 performers and composer shaping our first showing of W R I T T E N – physical theatre exploring the body as palimpsest: diverse layers or aspects apparent both on and beneath the surface, re-written / ‘written over’ due to experience, growth, development, decline, upheaval, joy, loss… Using original text, movement, physicality, song, music we will explore the experience of the performer in their personal corporeality. Focusing on reflection (past) and anticipation (future) and provocations of what is possible for that future in that body. Whatever age/condition a performer inhabits in the present moment delivers different depths and outlook. Emotion and physicality manifest differently for a 22 year old and an 82 year old. The cast are inter-generational and specialists in movement, voice, music and theatre. Content will be devised from performers’ personal histories interwoven with imagery from fairytales.

This is an important all-female project and includes performers of diverse ages.
In my opinion it is vital to represent as many aspects of the feminine as possible in theatrical performance; particularly in our male-dominated society and with fewer roles (still) for females on stage, TV and film.
Also, as we age, females disappear from public and performance view more and more. I seek to redress this and also desire to pay my performers accordingly.
Since government funding is an ever-shrinking pool, I turn to crowd-funding to achieve this first stage of the project.

The Dance Hub SA residency I have been granted generously provides studio space gratis plus $400 to cover some expenses.
The donated funds through this platform will assist me to pay each artist for their time and contribution during the creative development process. At the end of our 10 days there will be a public showing and discussion/feedback session at Dance Hub SA.
The long term goal is to take W R I T T E N to an in-theatre season and tour in 2020 / 2021. To chart our progress and alert supporters I will create a Facebook page and an event posting for our showing on November 10th.
