The Association of Australian Gallery Guiding Organisations (AAGGO) is a not for profit network linking volunteer art gallery guides across Australia. The Organisation was established forty years ago to nurture, develop and challenge volunteers, providing them with support and the opportunity to develop new skills to enhance their role as vibrant and effective gallery guides. AAGGO members support Australia’s twenty major galleries and every day connect the community to their galleries’ collections and visiting exhibitions.

Our project will take place in March 2019, when the voluntary guides from Bendigo Art Gallery will welcome 250 self-funded AAGGO members from around Australia to the 22nd Biennial Conference. The four day program aims to stimulate, inform and enhance the delegates’ understanding of the dynamic Australian art scene.

The development of volunteer guides is paramount to the service they provide to the public. Guides endeavour to be the best they can be; to be current, contemporary and effective.

Australian art galleries are innovative and energetic, offering varied public programs, which often advocate for marginalised groups, for example, alzheimers sufferers, the hearing impaired, sight impaired, the disabled, refugee and new immigrant groups. Voluntary guides support these programs.

Guides demonstrate their commitment and dedication to the arts sector in more ways than you can imagine including SELF-FUNDING their travel, accommodation and conference fees to attend the biennial conferences.

In order to provide the most stimulating and dynamic program possible for the volunteers who share their passion and insights into the world of art, we need your help.

Your donation will assist us to engage awe-inspiring speakers and cover their travel and associated costs. Appropriate tech support is essential to the smooth running of any function, but is costly, as is venue staffing and printing costs.

AAGGO is a membership organisation run by volunteers, for volunteers. Guides who attend the Bendigo conference will gain an enhanced knowledge of the Australian and international art scene and will share new thoughts and ideas with their peers which will reinvigorate their enthusiasm as volunteer guides.

Please consider supporting the people who support you!

The Association of Australian Gallery Guiding Organisations (AAGGO) is an association of Australian voluntary art gallery guides. AAGGO’s mission is to facilitate the exchange of contemporary information and ideas with members.

More than a thousand voluntary guides, who support Australia’s twenty major galleries, are members of AAGGO which was formed 40 years ago.

Guides interact daily with gallery visitors; welcoming, bringing to life and connecting the community to their galleries’ collections and visiting exhibitions.

In March 2019, the voluntary guides at Bendigo Art Gallery will welcome 250 self-funded AAGGO members from around Australia and beyond, to the 22nd Biennial AAGGO Conference. Delegates will participate in the four-day program which aims to stimulate, inform and enhance their understanding of the dynamic Australian art scene.
