VoiceworksPLUS Musical Theatre 2020

VoiceworksPLUS is a musical theatre and performing arts program for people living with disabilities. Making performing arts available for everyone.

Days Left

Vocal Ensemble Voiceworks (VEV) is an incorporated not for profit community choir. We share a Cultural Partnership with the City of Subiaco and have been conducting Performing Arts programs and events in our community since 2005.

In 2013, VEV in collaboration with UnitingCare West, created VoiceworksPLUS (VW+) a Performing Arts program for people living with disabilities. Through this program VW+ participants have been able to explore their creativity and develop their performance skills. Parents and friends have been given a rare opportunity to see their sons and daughters shining in the spotlight, developing their talents and having fun. Their families have been filled with pride and are delighted to see performances that they never believed possible.

Since 2017 UnitingCare West has been unable to contribute any financial support towards the program and VEV has made a promise to the VW+ participants that we would raise sufficient funding to enable this fantastic program to continue.

What our VW+ family members have said:

“The last VW+ show was exceptional. Often when I invite friends to my son’s events I feel they are only coming to be kind but our friends totally loved the last show. It was a great piece of theatre, really entertaining and they can’t wait to come and see the next one. My boy felt so proud!”

“She felt that she was an equal- a precious experience.”

“The joy and the confidence in this group was so evident during their performance it just spilled off the stage. So many fantastic comments from the audience, this was truly inclusion and community at its best.”

Heather Henderson, Mayor of City of Subiaco (2005-2017) and Patron of VW+ :
“I proudly support this important program which provides a unique opportunity for people with disabilities to create and develop their performance skills.”

COVID-19 restrictions have created challenging issues for our members who already suffer considerably from social isolation as well as for the parents and families supporting them during this crisis.

We have succeeded in keeping our VW+ programs running throughout this emergency by setting up regular rehearsals, newsletters and contact sessions online thanks to the fantastic efforts of our professional staff and volunteers.

Funding to enable VW+ programs to continue, both online and at our venue, is vital and we need your help.

Fundraising has been especially challenging in these difficult times. We urgently need extra funds for online program development, staff, administration, special equipment as well as technical assistance and support.

VoiceworksPLUS is making a difference in the lives of the participants, their support networks and their local community.

Your donation today can enable them to continue making that difference.

VW+ is proudly supported by the City of Subiaco.

Voiceworks Plus is a musical theatre program which fosters the talents of people who are living with intellectual disabilities.

It began in 2013 when UnitingCare West asked Subiaco community choir Vocal Ensemble Voiceworks (VEV) if they would be interested in expanding their community outreach to include a group of young people with intellectual disabilities who were keen to participate in singing and performance.

Since then the group, have been learning and developing their vocal and performance skills under the direction of Maggie Wilde West, with acting, singing and movement tuition from VEV’s professional musicians and volunteers.

UnitingCare West can no longer support this program but VEV, a not-for-profit organisation has a long-term vision to keep and expand this program where disabled people learn invaluable skills in communication, socialisation, listening, learning, participating and being committed to a shared project.

One parent has said: “Voiceworks Plus has given them a chance to break away from the mundane of life, to stretch themselves beyond what anyone has ever thought them capable, to have a goal and an organised structure to the preparation.”
