Visible Ink is an entirely volunteer-run publication made up of RMIT’s Professional Writing and Editing students. Therefore, we rely heavily on generous donations in order to get the anthology made and published again each year.

This year, our theme for the 31st edition is: Again! Again! Again! A theme to conjure up forgotten memories, pay tribute to lifelong habits, tap into the essence of childhood and the repetition of human life. We called out to writers and artists for their work about obsession, repetition and drudgery, and received a huge response with over 700 submissions!

Visible Ink aims to foster and showcase new voices, often publishing writers who have never been published before, and providing a career launching pad for many writers and artists. Past contributors and team members have included MJ Hyland, Alexis Wright, Michele Lee, Sarah Krasnostein, Melanie Cheng, Chris Womersley, Oslo Davis, Myfanwy Jones, Carrie Tiffany and many more.

We feel that creatives are, unfortunately, undervalued in most industries. Therefore, Visible Ink has always been a project dedicated to advocating for recognition and celebration of creative talent. We pay all of our contributing artists and help promote their work, allowing emerging writers a foot-in-door opportunity into what is often a close-knit, literary community.

This year, we’re asking for $4,000 to help ensure we can publish the anthology and continue running for another year. Anything you can give will greatly help us to survive, and all your donations over $2 are tax-deductible!

Donations will be used to cover the costs of printing, design, promotion and paying all of our artists.  All labour such as editing, proofreading, project management and distribution by our collective remains unpaid. We volunteer our time throughout the year in order to create something really special for our writers, artists and readers.

The end result will be a beautifully printed anthology published and launched before the end of the year, featuring our top selection of short stories, poetry, non-fiction and visual art from a range of this year’s best emerging writers and artists.

Please help us make this happen by donating whatever you are able to. We’ll love you forever.

You can find out more about us and our previous publications here: https://visibleink.net and follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for all our updates.

Love, Visible Ink.

Produced and published by a collective of RMIT students, Visible Ink was established in 1989 by the Professional Writing and Editing program and now encompasses a broad range of talented students that are committed to curating Australia’s creative literary best.

Each year a new voluntary team produces the Visible Ink anthology, providing hands-on experience for the next generation of editors, agents and publishers. The collective’s role is not limited to curating the anthology’s contents but involves a yearlong process of applying for grants, fundraising and events, marketing and distribution.

Visible Ink is an annual anthology promoting emerging writers and artists. We are committed to publishing new and diverse voices and are keen to read work that adopts a fresh perspective. We want pieces that sit at the literary margins and created by writers whose voices are too often silenced or unheard.

Visible Ink believes that all artists should be paid for their work and strives to source funds in the hope of keeping the Australian literary market strong.
