UNWOMAN is a large scale, cross cultural feminist work investigating reproductive rights and control of the female body, an epic imagistic uncompromising piece of theatre in three parts.
This project will draw Australian and Irish cultural narratives around abortion and political frameworks that investigate historical and current state control of a woman’s body. UNWOMAN is a collaboration between Australian feminist theatre company: THE RABBLE and Irish artist Maeve Stone. UNWOMAN is a real and substantial risk.
The work will be performed in Australia and Dublin in 2018 and involves a large chorus of volunteer women. This community component means that this development and research trip is vital for the success of the project.
UNWOMAN is an urgent and vital theatrical exploration.
THE RABBLE (Kate Davis and Emma Valente) was formed in 2006 from a desire to make work that wasn’t being produced in Australia: visually ambitious, political, feminist and formally experimental. THE RABBLE exists as a reaction to a conservatism that dominates our stages and is aimed at radically re-imagining what a theatrical experience could be by repopulating familiar stories with female voices and aesthetics.
THE RABBLE is unwaged. We work on multiple projects and always strive to invest in our artists’ wages and project costs. We are at a critical stage of this project’s development with research work to do in Ireland, local community partners and Irish presenters.
Despite applying for several grants, THE RABBLE has not been able to secure funding for this part of the project. Because we are excited about this collaboration and believe strongly in the vitality of the project we have decided to invest in accommodation and flights for Emma and Kate, but we need a bit more to ensure that this artistic trip is not a financial burden on our artists.
Emma and Kate will travel to Dublin in February for 2 weeks. Funds raised will go directly to support Emma and Kate’s trip including:
*recovering the costs of return flights to Dublin
*accommodation when couch-surfing isn’t possible
