Each album will document a distinct side of my musical personality in the most supreme conditions imaginable.
At the famed classical Teldex Studios in Berlin, I’ll record two solo piano albums. One of classical repertoire – my interpretations of some of the most lyrical pieces by Chopin, Rachmaninov, Scriabin, Debussy, Satie and Poulenc – the other my own original extemporisations. I’ll personally select a Steinway piano to be brought in from their headquarters in Vienna, with master piano technician Stefan Knüpfer (described by the New York Times as “the Steinway Whisperer”) preparing and looking after it throughout the sessions, recorded by German master engineer Tobias Lehmann.
Of course all this doesn’t come cheaply at all, and I will be travelling far. Which is why I really need your help to reach my target, so that this project can fly.
I know that I can produce my very best nuances and colours with conditions like these, and fresh geographical environments are always stimulating to an artist. My work is all about the quality of sound: of the instrument and the space, all feeding back to me as I record, and inspiring me to go further still and risk all in moving toward the very highest of artistic stakes. It’s essential to have the right collaborators and facilities to make sure I reach my goal of truly touching the listener deeply with the beauty of the finished result.
Your gratefully received donations – tax deductible for Australians – will make this dream a reality so I can record in 2019. Then, not long after, the albums will be released worldwide as CDs, digital downloads and on streaming platforms. Due to our networked digital world these recordings will become enduring works that will remain available, readily, everywhere, and in perpetuity.
As a highly passionate Australian artist at the peak of his skills, I know I can produce a volume of recorded work that will make a real difference. My mission has always been, and will always be, to – in the words of the great Leonard Bernstein – “make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before”
