TWEAKERS is an ultra violent story of Lucy, a down-and-out addict whose girlfriend is murdered in an act of senseless violence. Bleeding out and left for dead, Lucy is forced onto a white-knuckle path of survival, violence and revenge.
With full on grindhouse flare TWEAKERS will be a blisteringly high energy ride, channeling the bygone days of OZPLOITATION.
Writer Director Jack Bell has a deep love for horror and exploitation cinema, taking inspiration from Australian cult films like Mad Max and Wake in Fight.
The idea for the film was conceived in imagining a future a where the ‘meth epidemic’ completely consumes the already isolated environments of rural Australia.
TWEAKERS is set in a nameless town, seemingly abandoned by the rest of society; the drug trade and the bikers who own it exact a violent occupation. Lucy, discarded, isolated, and abandoned uses the only thing available to her to fight back against the powers that be – a wood axe and a couple of rabbit traps.
This film is an extremely exciting opportunity for Jack and the team behind TWEAKERS to create a short film far bigger in scale than previous work. As a VCA graduate film, TWEAKERS has been in development for almost a year and the final script presents a litany of (exciting) production challenges.
The film is being self funded by the director, donations through the ACF will significantly help to support the making of this film.
Donations will help with the ever expanding SFX budget, the film will have a serious focus on practical effects – blood and guts are more expensive than you would think! Your generous donations will also go towards production design, stunts and location costs.
The film will ideally start shooting in October, subject to restrictions imposed on filming as a result of COVID.
Thank you deeply for all donations, you are helping us create work and our gratitude is endless.
