To continue our work producing theatre which engages, moves and challenges we need your continued support… in fact we need your help to literally keep the lights on!

Over the next twelve months our goal is to complete the fit out of our theatre space with lighting and sound equipment, produce and develop works including new plays by established playwrights and first time writers:

“Donating Felix” by award winning playwright Ron Elisha.
“Tuntable Creek” by new writer Jan Di Pietro.
“Bella and Chaim” by Sara Vidal, first time playwright adapting her critically acclaimed novel for the stage.
The Australian premiere of “Zanders Boat” by award winning Scottish playwright, Grace Barnes.
“Lysistrata” the classical Greek comedy.

Q44 is an independent theatre company and your support is invaluable to us. We do not receive any ongoing government funding and the company relies solely on box office and help from you, our generous patrons. Your past support has enabled us to equip our new theatre space at The Abbotsford Convent and produce the Australian premiere of “Ironbound” by Martyna Majok, the world premiere of “Unsolicited Male ” by Ron Elisha, and the Victorian premiere of “Four Dogs and a Bone” by John Patrick Shanley. These productions have all met critical success, and “Unsolicited Male” received 5 star reviews.

Q44 provides unique opportunities for artists and audiences alike. Our work attracts audiences of diverse ages and backgrounds. Our partnership with Red Cross has enabled over 100 volunteers to attend our shows as an expression of thanks for the work they do in the community.

Over the 5 years Q44 has existed, we have established ourselves as one of Melbourne’s leading independent theatre companies, producing over 18 plays and developing a reputation for consistently excellent work.

As a young man, renowned American playwright, John Patrick Shanley observed life while he rode the Q44 bus from the Bronx to Queens. He realised it had no last stop and that it goes on forever: “THE Q44 IS LIFE. MISS IT AND YOU MISS LIFE.”

In the spirit of Shanley’s quote, we invite you to partner with us, get on board this journey, and play your part in telling stories that move people.

“Though small in stature and financial support, this little company is already the equal of ANY other theatre company in Melbourne, and infinitely superior to most.” Stage Whispers.
