This Thermoeconomics crowdfunding project was fully funded in May 2016, and has now closed. To assist Stuart’s ongoing crowdfunding efforts, please visit http://CrowdfundStu.com/

The graphic novel will use comic art to share the non-fiction stories of four unheralded scientists who made important contributions to the fields of environmental sustainability, energy, and post-growth economics.

The title Thermoeconomics refers to the scientists’ unified view that economics needs to be constrained by the physical laws of thermodynamics. These four unsung heroes, and their relevant chapter titles, are:

  • M. King Hubbert – Peak Oil [This comic is already published]
  • Buckminster Fuller – Energy Slaves [This comic will be released in mid-2016]
  • Simon Kuznets – GDP
  • Herman Daly – Growth

I have drawn approximately half of the graphic novel already.

This ACF crowdfunding campaign seeks to fund the 200 remaining pages of this 400-page graphic novel. These pages of artwork are crucial for the overall publication of Thermoeconomics.

I need your financial support to do the work that will yield my first graphic novel, and Creative Partnerships Australia’s MATCH program will help to double your donation.

Thanks to Creative Partnerships Australia’s MATCH program, every dollar you give to this campaign will be matched dollar for dollar, provided we reach our campaign target of $10,000. Therefore, if I reach my campaign target of $10,000 from readers, I will receive a total of $20,000 following the matched funding top-up.

The benefit for my crowdfunding supporters is that donations are tax deductible.

The publication of this graphic novel will represent a career leap from ‘rising webcomics artist’ to ‘published author’. You can help me make the leap.

This is a fully-planned project from a proven artist, with a proven reader interest. Please help make it happen.

I’m Stuart McMillen, and I draw long-form comics inspired by social issues involving science, ecology, sustainability, psychology and economics.

Born in Bundaberg in 1985, I now live in Canberra, Australia. I draw thoughtful comics about issues that are important to me, financed entirely through crowdfunding.

To date, my most popular comics have included ‘Rat Park’ (2013), ‘War on Drugs’ (2012), ‘Supernormal Stimuli’ (2011), and ‘Peak Oil’ (2015).

I am currently drawing a 400 page comic book, entitled ‘Thermoeconomics’. It will feature four of my heroes of post-growth, post-fossil fuel economics. The four scientists that will be profiled are M. King Hubbert, Buckminster Fuller, Simon Kuznets and Herman Daly. The book will be published in 2017.
