The ReviewBoard is an incorporated not-for-profit cultural organisation established in 2020 to create a digital publishing platform supporting Australian art & critical writing. Our purpose is to foster, develop & elevate discourse & the discipline of critical art writing. We know it is the best way to encourage dialogue, build audiences & encourage visitation to Australian presentations both nationally & internationally.
The SpringBoard campaign will raise funds to establish the digital infrastructure of a publishing website focusing on user friendly navigation, meaningful content, stable IT infrastructure & pleasing design. This investment ensures the website will be of the highest quality to meet the ambitious needs of The ReviewBoard now & moving into the future.
This project establishes a first of its kind, a completely independent, national non-commercial arts publishing platform dedicated to Australian visual arts, an honest investigation of Australian culture in a global context through a visual arts lens.
The ReviewBoard provides essential opportunities for arts writers and Australian artists at a time when our cultural investment is suffering. We aim to build a coherent overview of what Australian culture is, supporting artists, galleries & the broader community by actively encouraging visitation and engagement.
Our platform will publish independent reviews by a diverse range of writers from varying stages of their career, visiting exhibitions in cities, regional areas, remote areas, international presentations of Australian art – in central creative hubs & off the beaten track – to develop an honest understanding and appreciation of Australian art & culture.
We aim to commence the Beta testing and soft launch of the website in October / November 2020, with a major public launch scheduled for February 2021, corresponding to the commencement of a new exhibition calendar year.
Funds raised will support writers’ fees, website development & operational costs. The website development will be a long term investment to support publishing activities into the future.
We will be working with local Australian designers & programmers to create the publishing platform. A network of writers around Australia & internationally engaged with the site will be supported through the Writers Fees Fund raised. Operational costs will contribute toward the administration, editorial & staffing support required to create an ambitious but sustainable model.
