This is a family friendly project for everyone. Performed by the Director of the HAGGADAH Association and the Cultural Advisor of the Sarajevan Jewish Community, Dr Eli Tauber together with Melbourne’s SARAY Iluminado, a live music ensemble, this is an event for music, theatre, history, activism and live performance lovers. It is a poetic work about reconciliation, humanity and hope.  It is delivered in the form of a live, theatrical, musically accompanied lecture that sheds light on the (hi)story of the Haggadah, from its “birth” in Barcelona, through to the its turbulent yet resilient re-settlement in the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo.

This is a unique and still under-represented project: one that starts with Jewish history but surpasses it and sheds light on ethics of common humanity and reconciliation. Just as the HAGGADAH now represents hope and is seen as a the book of all Sarajevans and a something of a ‘lucky charm’ of peace, this project is a timely reminder that we can never stop re-imagining and encouraging stories of peace and tolerance, as they are the source of their own becoming.

The donations will assist air fares and help the presentation costs for the music ensemble and the visiting Bosnian artist.

Saray Iluminado play new interpretations of Sevdah from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Jewish Sephardic music from the Balkans. Formed in 2013, Saray Iluminado has progressed swiftly to become one of Melbourne’s best loved world music ensembles, performing at festivals and venues including Cygnet Folk Festival, Melbourne Recital Centre and the Bosnian Embassy, Canberra. The ensemble is known for its distinctive, intimate performance style. The HAGGADAH project is the biggest project merging arts and social activism and connecting the Bosnian and the Australian societies.
