A magical, musical adventure awaits you…
In a pea-green boat, an Owl and a Pussycat sail across the sea to a magical land where the Bong-tree grows. Adventure calls, new encounters await and love conquers all in a nostalgic journey and irresistible blend of romance and nonsense.
Created specifically for children 4-10 years, this charming new work melds live theatre, operatic vocals, puppetry, classical music and experiential theatre. In this beautiful re-telling of Edward Lear’s beloved poem, we will be creating a life-size magical, pea pod-inspired boat as our very own travelling theatre. Mooring on beaches, parklands and theatres, audiences will come aboard to experience an interactive journey of storytelling, sublime music and silliness. Setting sail in early 2018, the production will feature three fine singers and a chamber ensemble of musical Puffins, playing clarinet, cello and vibraphone.
To make this journey, we are searching for a group of boatbuilders to bring this dream of the giant pea pod to life. Join The Pea-Green Boatwrights Club with us at Little Match Productions and you can be at the heart of bringing this work to young audiences across the country. We are fundraising to build this remarkable boating theatre, which will pull ‘ashore’ in unexpected and unique locations.
Designed by the highly-respected Penny Challen, it is a striking and complex structure suitable for indoor or outdoor use and will transport children, alongside their families, carers and teachers, to an enthralling and immersive world. Funds will also be used to create delightful 1920s-inspired costumes, a whimsical set, puppetry and a set of ‘pea’ seats.
Thanks to Creative Partnerships Australia’s MATCH Lab program, every dollar you give to this campaign will be matched dollar for dollar, provided we reach our campaign target of $10,000.
This national collaboration of female artists, including Penny Challen (Royal Shakespeare Company, Opera Q), Kathryn Marquet (La Boite, QT), Bridget Boyle (QT, debase productions), Lisa Cheney (Making Waves, MSO) and Alicia Cush (Opera Q, Circa) will create a landmark children’s work.
Join us for a year and a day, on a magical journey to fair Bong-tree Bay! We invite you to be part of this adventure, as we create a new, high-quality musical work for children across Australia.
