The Familiars is a modern-day witch story, exploring how sometimes we need to walk away from the ones we love.
In the wake of her Grandmother’s death, Alison’s volatile and unstable Mother Liz, is intent on finding a family heirloom. When Alison finds the mysterious heirloom and as she tries to keep the family in balance, she must decide whether to live in fear or use the power and destroy her family.
The film is the Masters major project of Producer Alexis Talbot-Smith and Cinematographer Calum Riddell at the Australian, Film, Television & Radio School.
WHY MAKE THIS FILM
With a team of primarily female creatives including our Director Millie Malcolm and Writer Octavia B. Martin, we approach this project with the intention of elevating female stories and creating opportunities for femme identifying people in the industry, as well as exploring flawed characters and the intricacies of female relationships.
As lovers of high concept narratives, we want to see more genre driven Australian content. We’ve developed a visual language through cinematography and design which draws on elements of psychological horror and suburban drama to create an exciting supernatural thriller.
To create this film we need to raise $10,000 – $15,000, so we need your support with the immense cost of production!
