Girls Act Good

Live Arts & Hybrid Arts

The Association

A raw and disturbingly real psychological thriller, with splashes of black humour and moments of true humanity, where the idea of “the perfect life” is stripped down before the audience’s eyes.

Days Left

Building on what we have created over the past three years, Girls Act Good will be taking over a unique venue for a four-week residency from mid-July. Beginning with a two-week season of an immersive theatre experience, we will then re-work the piece to create a low budget, festival ready, film version.

Drawing inspiration from Frankenstein and The Stepford Wives, THE ASSOCIATION is set in a secret women’s meeting where newcomer Joanne quickly learns the members are doing more than charitable deeds and swapping recipes, when a horrifying experiment is revealed. But will Joanne be tempted to create her own version of a perfect life?

A fun, fast paced, thriller that asks the question how far can you go to change another for a better life?

Girls Act Good aims to give female theatre and filmmakers the opportunity to extend their skills while working on challenging material that is not afraid to ask the difficult questions and create complex characters that explore all aspects of human nature. Projects for women by women.

Previously, GAG have used their productions to raise money for important outreach programs. Through this project we aim to raise awareness of ‘McAuley Community Services for Women’ and ‘GROW’ which are dedicated to supporting women, and those at risk in the community, offering assistance with the immediate issues they are facing including domestic violence, homelessness and mental health issues. We hope to use our project as a vehicle to further support and bring attention to these organisations.

In donating to this project, you will be supporting independent Australian artists as they take their work to the next level, all the while helping them to provide much needed opportunities for women in the arts, and to create a highly entertaining theatre and film experience for Melbourne audiences and beyond.

All actors and crew will be volunteering their time to create and carry out this ambitious project. Your donations will go directly toward our production costs for both the theatrical season and film shoot. This will include set construction, costumes, equipment hire, venue hire, publicity and marketing costs, as well as keeping our hardworking crew well supplied with coffee during the shoot!

Our whole team thanks you in advance for your generous support.

Girls Act Good (GAG) is an all female ensemble of actors, writers, directors, producers and designers.

The focus of GAG is providing opportunities to women and giving a voice to people and their stories that normally go unheard and unnoticed. GAG create projects for women by women, and to date have devised and produced two theatre shows ‘A Christmas Tale’ (The Butterfly Club), ‘A Lady Shot’ (La Mama Theatre) and the short film ‘Cinders and the Seven Stages of Grief’.
