THE ASSOCIATION – Post Production

A raw and disturbingly domestic psychological thriller, with splashes of black humour and moments of true humanity, where the idea of “the perfect life” is stripped down before the audience’s eyes.

Drawing inspiration from ‘Frankenstein’ and ‘The Stepford Wives’, as well as the wonderful work of the Country Women’s Association (CWA), THE ASSOCIATION is set in a secret women’s meeting where newcomer Joanne quickly learns the members are doing more than charitable deeds and swapping recipes, when a horrifying experiment is revealed. But will Joanne be tempted to create her own version of a perfect life?

Formed by Jennifer Monk in 2013, Girls Act Good (GAG) is an all-female ensemble of actors, writers, directors, producers and designers based in Melbourne. The focus of GAG is providing creative opportunities to women and giving a voice to people and their stories that normally go unheard and unnoticed. Projects for women by women.

THE ASSOCIATION is our largest and most exciting project to date. For one month, we took over a private residence, first presenting a sold out season of an immersive theatre version of THE ASSOCIATION before then adapting and filming the piece to create a short film.

“… a show that is at once, inventive, creepy satirical and witty… Girls Act Good is a collective of talented women who should be more widely known and widely seen. (Stage Whispers).

Over eleven days, with a small but very dedicated crew and a talented cast, we shot our short film version of THE ASSOCIATION with the aim to enter national and international festivals.

Through the cast and creative team generously donating their time to this project, as well as through previous fundraising and ticket sales from our theatre event, we have been able to cover all production costs for both the theatre and film components.

Your support on this campaign will help us to fund our post production costs including picture and sound editing, sound mixing and grading as well as outputting the film ready for festivals and distribution.

In assisting us with a donation, you will not only be supporting local female artists but will also be helping to raise awareness of two important outreach programs in Melbourne, both of which feature in our project – McAuley Community Services for Women and GROW.

Thank you in advance for your support and ensuring our short film THE ASSOCIATION gets the high quality and professional treatment it deserves!

The focus of GAG is to generate opportunities for women to extend their creative skills, work on challenging material that is not afraid to ask the difficult questions and create complex characters that explore all aspects of human nature. Giving a voice to people and their stories that normally go unheard and unnoticed.
