Support 2018 Queensland Poetry Festival

Queensland Poetry Festival seeks your support to showcase some of Australia’s finest contemporary, Indigenous, multicultural and regional voices as part of our 2018 event program.

Days Left

We are celebrating our 21st year, the coming of age of the Queensland Poetry Festival, Australia’s foremost festival for the spoken word and poetic arts.

Queensland Poetry Festival has built an international reputation for its excellence in presenting contemporary poetry in all of its forms. All are welcome at the Queensland Poetry Festival with 75% of the sessions being free. The past three years have especially seen increased audiences and broader programming.

Poetry is as much an oral as it is a written tradition. Ultimately, we are also a storytelling festival and we want to hear the stories of those that go unheard. We are strongly committed to ensuring that the voices of indigenous, migrant and refugee people are amplified and shared as well as emerging and youth QLD voices.

In 2018 the Queensland Poetry Festival will continue its strong commitment to diverse and new contemporary voices being given a platform for their work, both at our festival main and other project streams and events throughout the year. We will also look to consolidate our reach beyond South East Queensland via our youth/schools program, poetry slam heats and initiatives such as our Goondawindi Satellite Festival this year. Through targeted promotions and working in consultation with communities, the festival will further build on artists participation from Indigenous, multi-cultural and regional poets. It will also look to expand the reach and impact of programs such as the Indigenous Poet in Residence and Brisbane Poetry Map Program.

Your support will help make this possible. QPF relies each year on diverse income sources in order to sustain and build on its current levels of program and project streams. It will fund participation from a new set of artists and provide a platform for them to showcase their work. It will ensure our commitment diversity, foster a culture of inclusiveness in the art form and present stories through poetry of all forms that are both compelling and reflective of our society today.

Queensland Poetry Festival warmly thanks you for your support to ensure the Festival can continue to thrive.
