SUDDENLY is the artistic collaboration of Dean Gild (Book) and Jordie Race-Coldrey (Book, Music & Lyrics). The concept derives from the specific intention to amplify the positivity and intrinsic goodness within people and familial relationships which are elevated through mutual understanding and acceptance.

With a creative team comprised of young industry professionals, we are focused on developing a production that allows us to explore, experiment, and entertain.

SYNOPSIS:
‘A stretched relationship between a mother, Lindsay, and her daughter, Max, reaches its breaking point, pushing Max to leave. Following her into the subway, the pair find themselves in separate carriages of a train which experiences an engine failure, causing a complete halt.

Unaware of how long they’ll be trapped, they are forced to confront the issues which are causing their rift by reflecting on their past, their innate insecurities, and personal struggles.’

The entire creative team, cast and crew are working on an unpaid / volunteer basis. We are dedicated to creating opportunities for current professionals and upcoming talents to gain experience, and enhance their craft and their careers, while working on a brand new piece of Australian musical theatre that will be distributed globally online. We hope that this production can offer an opportunity for artists to continue doing what they love throughout this ‘intermission’ of live theatre.

As this production will be presented to an online audience through the style of a short film, the team are excited to experiment with unique storytelling techniques and devices which are usually impossible to utilise when produced live on stage. Every audience member will be experiencing this production from better than the best seat in the house. SUDDENLY is a fast paced, high energy, short musical that will leave you with plenty to reflect upon.

Donations from this ACF fundraising project will be used to create our set and allow our team to bring their vision to life. Funds will also be used to ensure that we have the necessary equipment to capture the production – both film and audio  – in the highest quality to distribute to you, our audience and supporters.

Choosing to support SUDDENLY: A Short New Musical is an opportunity to directly enrich the future of new Australian musical theatre. Each creative collaborator is a junior in the industry, working tirelessly on this project to enhance their experience and expertise, to ensure they have the opportunity to continuously present works of theatrical art that are truly meaningful and relevant to today’s society. With your help, this production will provide an opportunity for new Australian works to be produced, and upcoming creatives to have a space to create their art. Both of which are extremely rare in this time of industry struggle.
