We are looking forward to presenting our 2017 Series again at the Glebe Justice Centre, with performances in February, June, September and November.

Each program in our 2017 series is distinctly different – we will be presenting Piano Trios, String Quartets and works for mixed ensemble – each with our usual mix of the old and the new, with fresh contemporary works from Australia and abroad alongside some of the mainstays of the chamber music repertoire by Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Ravel and Schumann. In 2017, we will also be showcasing female voices with at least half of the works we present composed by women.

Strelitzia has been widely praised for their innovative programs which typically feature the great masterpieces of the Classical, Romantic and 20thC repertoire alongside lesser known gems from around the world. We relish the challenge of presenting contemporary works with influences ranging from world music to Jazz to modern dance music, and is deeply committed to promoting Australian music by both emerging and established composers.

Review of 2016 programs: “This concert was nothing short of superb in its programming and delivery. Strelitzia have taken great pains to tread unbeaten paths, exposing us to less well-known works and we are much the richer for it. The playing was faultless and I can’t recall having a warmer feel: the performers and audience enjoyed themselves immensely”.

We will use all donations to fund operating costs for our four concert series.

We rely on ticket revenue and donations to fund all our basic running costs. Your donation would go towards venue hire, sheet music, printing and promotional costs, and would allow us to work on building bigger audiences, and give us the freedom to offer guaranteed performance fees to our wonderful musicians.

Your donation, however big or small, gives us a great boost and encouragement to continue performing and making great music together.

Strelitzia is a young, vibrant ensemble of Strings, Winds and Piano. First formed in 2008 as a Piano Trio, the group went on to win the prestigious Musica Viva Chamber Music Award the following year.

Since 2010, the ensemble has presented a yearly subscription series in Sydney, and now presents their concerts at the Glebe Justice Centre, as well as performing regularly for the music programs of St James King St and the Nolan on Lovell Gallery in the Blue Mountains.

Strelitzia has been widely praised for their innovative programs which typically feature the great masterpieces of the Classical, Romantic and Twentieth Century chamber music repertoire alongside lesser known gems from around the world, as well as fresh new contemporary works with influences ranging from world music to Jazz to modern dance music.

The ensemble is deeply committed to promoting Australian music by both emerging and established composers, and this features heavily in their programs. Aside from commissioning new works, the ensemble has made a number of recordings of Australian music for ABC Classic FM including works by Matthew Hindson, Elena Kats-Chernin and Andrew Chubb.
