Stellar
– relating to a star or stars
– featuring or having the quality of a star performer or performers

28th January – 2nd February 2019, Canberra

Stellar is mentoring program that will bring together a range of young people from across Australia with a passion for dance, music and science. Drawing inspiration from observations and the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing we will share stories, movement, text and music. The stars hold stories and cultural relevance for every culture and we will have a particutlar focus on indigenous dreamtime stories.

The Australian Talented Youth Project (ATY Project) was established in 2004 by Dr Jolanta Gallagher. The company has provided a multi-arts mentoring program for young, emerging artists especially those from remote and rural areas not readily able to access high level tutorship. We work towards cross-cultural exchange of ideas, development of community leadership skills and building young people’s supportive networks.

We are seeking support to bring rural and regionally based young people to Canberra to work with experts in the fields of all major creative and performing arts – music, dance, visual art, creative writing, film production, and drama.

ATY is under new direction and taking new directions to run projects throughout the year which will support these young artists and their participation in Canberra and beyond.

The donation will cover the costs of the Intensive; Mentor fees, travel and accomodation bursary for 8 mentees to attend from regional areas, insurance and tech costs for a showing.

We have in kind support from Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centre who are providing the spaces for us to work in over the week.

Mount Stromlo providing science research and enabling us to have a showing at the observatory on the 2nd February.

We are also hoping to offer billeting for mentees in Canberran homes for them to experience the city as guest rather than tourists.

The Australian Talented Youth Project (ATY Project) has been running for 12 years. We provide a multi-arts mentoring program for young, emerging artists aged 16-25 years, especially those from remote and rural areas not readily able to access high level tutorship.

This unique Project developed the first national, residential mentoring program which brought together all major creative and performing arts – music, dance, visual art, creative writing, film production, and drama. The main purpose of the Project is to assist development of young artists’ talent and skills within a collaborative, multidisciplinary model facilitating cross-cultural exchange of ideas, development of community leadership skills and building young people’s supportive networks.

Directed by Liz Lea the program is broadening it’s focus in 2019 to work in a full inclusive, intercultural and intergenerational capacity to benefit as aspects of community and arts across the community.
