Spark Youth Dance Company Main Work

In 2017, the artists and young creatives of SYDC will be creating a new full-length original dance work set to classical music which will be played live by our brand new orchestra.

Days Left

In October 2017, Spark Youth Dance Company Inc. will be premiering a brand new full-length contemporary dance work about the Suffragettes; created and directed entirely by youth under 25.

Our dance company is unique.

In 2016, we were founded by a passionate 18-year-old who just wanted a place to create and explore dance and provide a dance company experience for the dancers of the Mornington Peninsula.

Every aspect of the company – the choreography, costuming, music, lighting, photography, videography, admin, marketing and more – is directed and organised entirely by children, teenagers and young adults aged under 25.

We are non-profit and all our young people are volunteers – so, we need the help of incredible people like you to fund our main work for 2017.

Our full-length work, premiering October at Frankston Arts Centre, focuses on the British Suffragettes and their violent journey to gaining the vote.

Your donation won’t just help fund our costumes, sets and orchestra. It will also allow young kids to find their passions in the arts and take on real leadership positions whilst working on a real production.

In 2017, we are introducing the role of Music Director – a role that will see a young person organise and learn to conduct a professional orchestra.

You will be supporting the kids that will become arts lovers and supporters themselves. The kids who may find their passion in choreography or costume design and go on to bring beautiful art to this world through theatre.

You will be helping us create the next generation of artistic leaders.

Welcome to the Spark family; we can’t wait to share our new work with you!

Projects Funded

Spark Youth Dance Company Inc. is a dance initiative driven entirely by young people under the age of twenty-five.

We strive to spark a passion for the creative process in the next generation of artistic leaders by providing the opportunity for a team of young people to create both short and full-length dance works.

Spark is a non-profit incorporated association led by Artistic Director Alex Dellaportas and supported by a committee and a new team of young creatives each year.

In its inaugural year, Spark produced an original contemporary dance interpretation of The Nutcracker set during WW1 that performed at the Frankston Arts Centre in September 2016, with guest artist Daniel Gaudiello.

Our vision is to provide a place where young people can express themselves through both creation and performance and to give youth a safe space to have their voices heard as young artists.
