SMILE explores the nature of portraiture, individuality, cultural diversity and showcases a rarely seen body of photographic work by Tawfik Elgazzar. Underpinning this is a reflection on the importance of giving to others, community and the emotional impact on the artist of seeing his subjects smile.

Funds raised will go towards completing the project including final editing, colour grade, sound design and a distribution platform.

The film will be completed November 2018.

SMILE is for the people of Sydney’s inner west photographed in Flash Hub (flashhub.wordpress.com) as well as a global audience interested in photography, city living, sub cultures and community.

Photographer Tawfik Elgazzar (elgazzar.com.au) set up Flash Hub as a way of practising his photographic skills when he couldn’t find paid work. Years later he is a successful commercial photographer but the visual delight and inclusive spirit of his free pop up project remains.

The team behind the project include:
Producers Fran Tinley & Harriet McKern
Director Harriet McKern
Co-Director and Interviewer Remy Varga
Director of Photography Ivan Lipanovic & Paulo Mousicci
Sound Rhett Champion
Editor William Wong
Composer Abe Dunovits
