Sirens is an 8 x 10 minute coming of age mystery drama set in the beautiful Smith’s Lake NSW.
When best friends Faye and Anna embark on their schoolies trip, they’re intoxicated with the thrill of adventure. But after meeting charming bottle shop worker Josh and his friend Aidan, Faye and Anna’s jealousies, insecurities and desires push to the fore, tangling them in lies and manipulation, culminating in Aidan’s body being found in the Lake the next day.
Set amongst the most beautiful yet dangerous landscapes, where the trees see all, and the lake lies deathly still, Sirens submerges us in the liminal dream space between adventure, and getting lost.
Sirens is a bold, compelling and unique story for a modern audience. It delves into timely and complex questions surrounding sexual agency and maturity to create an authentic portrait of the ways in which young women seek empowerment in their world.
Written and directed by Orla Doyle, Sirens has been in development for over a year with a passionate and talented group of five female creatives all in their final year at the Australian Film Television and Radio School. We now need your help to get this project off the ground, and onto your screens.
The funds will cover our basic production costs for an on location shoot, such as catering, accommodation, transport and hire of equipment. Our team is committed to ensuring as much of these funds as possible go back into the Smith’s Lake community, who has felt the impact of the summer bushfires and lack of tourism from COVID-19.
As emerging filmmakers graduating into an increasingly uncertain industry, this project acts as a way for us to express our voices as the next generation of Australian screen storytellers.
Our goal is to shoot the entirety of the web series in two shoot blocks in October 2020 and February 2021. This is a challenge we are excited to embrace, and any support you can give gets us closer to achieving this.
