Grace Dance Company is an emerging dance organisation with a mission to care for dancers and communities through artistic practice and cultural storytelling. We have strong mental health inclusion priorities and seek to advocate for sustainable and diverse dance practice. We are currently raising funds to support the start up costs of the Company and to launch us into 2021. We aim to fundraise these costs by the end of January 2021.

Throughout 2020, we’ve witnessed the Melbourne Dance industry in crisis, with theatres first to be shut and last to re-open amidst COVID19. Face-to-face rehearsals have been cancelled for months, with severe mental health implications on dancers and our broader communities. AusDance research found that the Victorian dance industry lost two million dollars during the first lockdown, with dire impacts on our community’s mental health. Stimulus packages have been inaccessible to many within the dance industry and our COVID recovery is yet to be mapped out.

Grace Dance Company seeks to respond to the unique needs of the dance industry and its COVID and mental health recovery.

This Seed Fundraiser will be used to support the start up costs of Grace Dance Company including; legal, accounting and administration costs, marketing, salaries, and the development of a Peer Led Dance and Mental Health Advisory Group. By partnering with us you are investing in the future of both the dance industry and our broader communities; amplifying minimised voices and advocating for the future diversity and sustainability of dance practice.

Grace Dance Company is an emerging dance organisation with a mission to care for dancers and communities through artistic practice and cultural storytelling.

We have strong mental health inclusion priorities and seek to advocate for sustainable and diverse dance practice. Our debut performance work will be coming to Melbourne Fringe Festival in November 2020, entitled Sincerely Survivor – advocating for mental health through the Arts.

We are currently in preparation to launch a career development program for dancers that will seek to extend their practice to include outreach to people with disabilities and address the collective COVID and mental health recovery of our Australian communities. We seek to partner with philanthropic bodies who will help amplify our vision for a mental health/disability inclusive and sustainable dance practice.
