‘Steel City Strings’ is a truly unique not-for-profit chamber orchestra of professional musicians bringing the highest quality chamber music to the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands.
Our musicians are absolutely passionate about fostering musical skills and experience in our youth. They firmly believe in the educational value of music far beyond the music itself.
“MUSIC EDUCATION DOES NOT JUST MAKE CHILDREN MORE MUSICAL; IT UNLEASHES THEIR CREATIVE POWERS.” Richard Gill, legendary conductor, teacher and tireless advocate for music education in Australia
Real concert performance experience is critical to the development of young musicians, but can be very difficult to achieve without support.
The cost of putting on concerts is high: venue hire, supporting artists’ fees, marketing and publicity not to mention the experience of creating and organising concerts.
So, Steel City Strings created the ‘Celebration of Youth’ concert series.
MARCH 2019 CELEBRATION OF YOUTH WILL FEATURE:

Peter won the 2018 Wollongong Conservatorium Concerto Competition and is currently studying for his AMUS.

We’d like to ask for your support to help the 2019 Celebration of Youth concert series in March successfully provide our young, talented musicians an opportunity to develop their professional potential.
Your donation will allow us to:
• Offer young musicians the thrill of playing with a professional orchestra
• Afford bigger venues including The Wollongong Town Hall and Chevalier Performing Arts Centre
• Cover artists’ travel fees
• Bring to audiences the passion and joy that young people bring to music
• Continue to support and foster musicianship in young players from the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands
