The Sunshine Coast Chamber Music Festival (SCCMF) has been established in response to the region’s population surge & growing interest in the performing arts. The Sunshine Coast offers a relaxed, yet sophisticated lifestyle. Encompassing the coastline from Caloundra to Rainbow Beach and the lush countryside of the hinterland, the beauty of this region is ideally placed for experiencing the intimacy of chamber music in beautiful locations.
We are raising funds for the inaugural 3-day Festival to be staged in June 2021 under the artistic leadership of the locally based, acclaimed cellist and chamber music specialist, Louise King.
The festival will bring together internationally renowned Australian musicians for a three-day program of curated chamber music concerts and special events in iconic locations and venues in the Sunshine Coast region, Queensland.
This project is important for two reasons:
- Our region has a sizeable gap in its cultural life. There is a lack of a capacity for regular performance of classical music – a capacity we can create right here on our own turf.
- In March of this year all jobs in the Performing Arts were wiped out at a stroke.
We knew that our new organisation here in this community had to succeed and had to be a sign of hope for young artists, on our road to Covid recovery. We want an Annual classical music Festival, and other music events along the way, that showcase local, emerging and nationally recognised Artists in classical music.
We are asking for monetary donations and any donations in kind that will allow us to stage our Chamber Music Festival.
We are passionate about chamber music and want to bring a festival of this nature to our beautiful Sunshine Coast. The fastest growing area in Australia desperately needs more cultural activities to cater for the diverse population streaming into this coastal region. We also want to imbue the idea that Chamber music is cool for young people. We would love your support because this will help us to realise our vision of bringing the first chamber music festival to the Sunshine Coast and creating a legacy for years to come.
The result will be a boutique, stylish, intimate, and innovative Festival, activating iconic places and spaces in our Region, highlighting our rich First Nations heritage. Picture this – a string quartet, a didgeridoo and a poignant welcome to country accompanying the beautiful Legend of the young lover Maruchi, her love Coolum and his nemesis Ninderry. Our respect for country and for our ancient first peoples, beamed around the world. This is our Festival dream, this is our Festival plan.
