Following the success of the inaugural 2019 season, RUMPUS has announced a captivating line-up of brand new South Australian plays for 2020. Bowden’s buzzing hub of independent theatre and performance returns in 2020 with a brand new season of works of fresh local theatre designed to thrill, challenge and entertain. It’s fresh, local theatre for your viewing pleasure!
For RUMPUS’ 2020 season, we have doubled down on our commitment to the development of South Australian artists, offering a season of 5 new South Australian works and 6 developments of works-in-progress in a diverse and exciting array of theatre. From award-winning plays to cutting-edge genre mashups, 2020 promises touching, devastating and unconventional stories.
RUMPUS 2020 will kick off in July and run through to December.
RUMPUS is not a producing theatre company, but rather capitalises on the existing creative energy of the arts sector. It offers opportunities for audiences and makers to meet by sharing the skills, labour and time required to produce work. RUMPUS is developing its own audience base and is now continuing to raise the profile of independent theatre makers by bringing a variety of high quality shows to one place over a fixed period of time. RUMPUS has already begun to embolden the independent theatre community in Adelaide, driving the creation of new work. It serves as an invaluable hub to these artists and is working to build the long term viability of second tier production.
RUMPUS is working to reinvigorate a sector that has been sorely affected by ongoing cuts to arts funding. During this time of COVID 19, we, like so many others, are working to keep our minds flexible, our doors open and our theatre continuing to be created. Our space and shared artist governance has been designed by artists to be as hospitable as possible to the creation of new, bold and diverse work.
This year, many people are again bringing their brand new creations to life for the first time in the RUMPUS space, and we want to raise money to pay these artists for their awesome effort. The money we raise will also go to supporting in-kind benefits for the artists, such as a free venue, marketing and production support.
We are very excited that all donations up to $10,000 will also be matched by Creative Partnerships Australia. So a donation of $50 will actually be $100 going to help Adelaide’s independent theatre artists!
The end result will be another exciting season of new work by South Australian artists. The 2019 season was a pilot program. In 2020 we are building on the success of this pilot with an even more ambitious selection of theatre. 2020 also sees a large membership of over 20 local theatre practitioners now on board to expand RUMPUS’ capacity and deliver on our promise to become a staple of South Australia’s independent sector.
