WELCOME!

Anita Pollard is a jazz vocalist/writer/broadcaster with an interest in the history of jazz music. She was inspired to create a new play, ‘ROUND THELONIOUS with a desire to take her audiences on a meaningful journey.

This play tells the captivating true story of English Rothschild Nica (Baroness Pannonica de Koenigswarter) who fell under a musical spell when she heard a recording of Modern jazz pianist/composer Thelonious Monk’s ballad Round Midnight, leaving her husband and children and moving to New York to become friend and patron to Thelonious Monk.

WELL RESEARCHED

‘ROUND THELONIOUS is an important work that shines a light on Nica and Monk’s relationship for the very first time on the stage. The narrative is created from hundreds of hours of research from material spanning the globe. The fascinating and heart-warming story about friendship and freedom is set against the changing cultural and political landscape of 1950’s America, interwoven with the music and songs of the period. (Find out more on the show website www.roundthelonious.com).

WELL TRAINED

Anita Pollard is an experienced, accomplished jazz singer. To bridge the gap between her singing and acting skills she will train with an award-winning drama teacher at a unique workshop at The Barrow Group school in New York. The 5-week Solo-Show Workshop, which also focuses on script analysis and story structure, commences in July 2015.

Your funds will go towards Anita’s travel and tuition costs to attend this workshop and help build the skills necessary to take ROUND THELONIOUS to the next level of development.

WELL RECEIVED

The show has US industry feedback that it is a suitable, credible piece for the U.S and global markets:

“I have just finished reading your script, ‘ROUND THELONIOUS, and quite frankly, I have nothing but great admiration and congratulations to shower upon you… I(‘m also) feel(ing) strongly that this piece can be produced in all the major theatrical destinations of the world and enjoy a steady commercial life.” US director/producer Shidan Majidi (Production Associate, Cameron Macintosh Inc. NY)

WELL WORTH IT!

You will be able to tell your friends you are creating history by helping to bring this amazing true story onto the world-stage!

Thank you for your generous support of ‘ROUND THELONIOUS.
