Practise What You Teach (PWYT) is an initiative devoted to motivating and promoting the artistic practices of art teachers through exhibitions and public programming. The initiative provides educators with attainable and motivating opportunities that engage and foster artistic practice whilst simultaneously benefiting the classroom. Over the past two years we have proudly supported and promoted the artistic practices of over thirty Visual Arts teachers in Sydney via three successful exhibitions, with a further two shows opening this June and July. The funding we seek will assist our projects for 2019. Specifically, with this funding we hope to support the artistic practices of teachers in regional areas of NSW by hosting an exhibition in their community and developing accompanying public programs.
By the end of 2018, the PWYT initiative will have presented five exhibitions in the Sydney region. We now wish to bring this successful initiative to greater NSW through regional exhibitions and programs. This will provide art educators in such areas with the same opportunities we provide to art teachers in the Sydney metropolitan area.
Connecting with art educators in regional NSW areas will support and develop networking across schools, harnessing the power of collective spirit. For exhibiting teachers, they will have the opportunity to display their work in a gallery, often for the first time ever. For others, a means to further promote their artistic practice. Pursuing this project however, will present new challenges requiring additional funding. Funding raised through this campaign will assist PWYT with gallery hire fees and the development of public programs including guest talks, panel discussions and artist lead workshops. This funding may also assist PWYT with costs surrounding open night catering and promotional materials.
