We’re drawing on all our skills to deliver a beautiful piece of theatre that utilizes contemporary movement pieces, compelling audio-visual work, puppetry and spoken word. If I Stay Up Too Late guides the audience on a journey through the uncertain and restless. The work reflects people who find themselves lying awake at night, feeling small, and restless in their search for the intangible. This work aims to analyze systemic pressures we face every day, and explore how our bodies respond.
The work is premiering in Paris at the ‘Dreams before Dawn’ festival. A contemporary theatre festival presented by Bred in the Bone, host to a diverse programme of 35; theatre, movement, poetry and music performances.
The show will be completed by early June 2018 and then flown to Paris at the end of the same month. The company returns from Paris in early July and prepares the work for an independent season in Perth for 2019.
Participating in the festival allows us to cross-pollinate our practice and fuse it with exciting methods of making work across continents. This is a hugely unique opportunity for early-career artists such as ourselves and a chance to investigate the way we tell stories, why, and how that translates over oceans and through language.
By donating you are supporting local, Australian arts. You’re allowing us to drink up the work and artistry of skilled, contemporary practitioners in the flesh on an international scale. Donors are responsible for shaping an experience that will influence us as artists for years to come, and we are so excited to share with our peers and collaborators on our return.
We are asking for $4000 to assist with the costs of return flights (Perth-Paris) and two weeks accommodation for three adults. This alone is not enough to cover the costs of the trip but is a HUGE help.
The donations will be used to contribute towards travel expenses. We’ll be paying for food, travel insurance, rent while we’re away and any other travel expenses not covered by fundraising. This endeavor will not generate us any income, but we are so committed to going anyway!
During our time in Paris the artists will be fully focused on engagement with Dreams Before Dawn. You can expect to see our faces at every artist talk, workshop and performance available to us. We expect this to be a highly formative experience. Afterwards, we return to Perth and prepare the work for its independent run in Perth 2019.
