New songs for Hummingsong

As we near the end of a stunning 2018 season, Hummingsong is planning a bold and busy 2019 season full of joy, laughter and new music!

Days Left

Hummingsong enriches the lives of women in our community through music.

Our choirs are very special celebration of community — the incredible community of singers that comprise the Hummingsong Choirs. Some of our choir members have not sung since their school days. Others have sung all their lives. These singers have a tremendous diversity of backgrounds, professions and life experiences. Yet they become a community, bonded by music and friendship.

Sourcing great repertoire and is a key activity for us. We look for a steady supply of songs which are diverse in style and are broadly appealing. We invest substantially in purchasing licences and copyright, commissioning suitable arrangements, and preparing online music resources for our members to practice to.

Your donation is enabling Hummingsong to continue building a musically-rich and varied repertoire library, and we thank you for your generous support.

Projects Funded

Hummingsong Choirs are a network of seven a Cappella choirs, with over 370 members situated in different locations across Sydney’s Northern Beaches and North Shore. We have six women’s choirs and one (brand new!) men’s choir.

Anna Humberstone, Founder and Artistic Director, works alongside five other passionate conductors. These choirs offer a vibrant opportunity to sing for fun and nourish the soul.

Hummingsong continually strives to perform a variety of repertoire that challenges our members and provides an interesting and dynamic program for our audiences.

We support local Australian composers by regularly commissioning new works and arrangements that are tailored to the needs of our singers.

We provide our members with a range of performance opportunities from flash mobs to vocal workshops, cultural festivals to large-scale fundraising concerts. We annually collaborate with professional artists such as The Idea of North, James Morrisson, Moira Smiley, B’tutta Percusion, Darren Percival, Christine Anu and Lior.

Non-auditioned and non-exclusive, these wonderful musical communities sing, laugh and grow together. They also raise funds and awareness, through performances, for local women and children escaping domestic violence. Since 2012 over $100k has been donated to fund specialised initiatives at six local women’s shelters.
