NYCA is a nationally-auditioned SATB chamber choir for singers aged 18-26 years. Australia’s only truly national youth choir, it draws its members from all States and Territories and brings together 28 of Australia’s best young choral singers.
This year the season is being held in Queensland with performances in Toowoomba, Ipswich and Brisbane on the 7th and 8th of July.
Following a very successful season in 2016 with UK Guest Conductor, David Hill, NYCA’s Board has engaged NYCA Artistic Director Carl Crossin OAM to conduct the 2017 season. This Australian appointment is in line with NYCA’s commitment to offer singers the opportunity over time to work with both Australian and international conductors and to ensure a strong ongoing focus on Australian repertoire, in particular.
NYCA works with very limited resources. In addition, our singers generally do not yet have the financial independence of someone established in the work sector and often have significant accommodation and education costs.
Each year we struggle to keep the costs we must pass on to the singers as low as possible. To overcome this problem and make NYCA participation open to as many excellent singers as possible means that we must work hard to provide as much financial assistance as is possible. But this usually only covers the ‘must haves’ such as accommodation, meals and transport. It does not cover additional items which will help us to market NYCA in the future. We believe it is vital that we record these amazing voices and works but to do so we need your help.
NYCA is one of Australia’s best kept choral secrets and we want to tell everyone!
We need at least $5000 to enable us to take video and audio recordings of the full repertoire of the 2017 season and to have photographs taken during the eight-day season of rehearsals and three concerts.
This season is very special as it will include works from our 2017 Composition Competition. The winner will receive the Ralph Morton Memorial Prize to acknowledge the late Ralph Morton who was a founder and previous director of NYCA.
Will you give our recording wings? We are seeking your support to give our singers the biggest wings possible – these are Australia’s professional singers of the future. Let’s hear them!
