Before Vivid, White Night and Silo Art Trails, a bunch of Natimuk artists have been using the local silos as their personal theatre and making spectacular performance art for the Natimuk Frinj Biennale in Western Victoria.

15 years of collaboration have seen them develop a unique visual language combining the enormous animated projections interacting with aerial antics, community performers and stunning shadow play. This year the Nati Frinj Biennale is working with this team of artists (and a few more) to premiere the extraordinary performance of “Dusk” – a huge event that changes each evening to reflect the day that was, at the Nati Frinj. That’s right, every evening of the Nati Frinj Biennale, 3-5 November 2017, you get to sit in a paddock, before the largest stage in the region, under the vast Wimmera sky and witness 3 different shows, and what’s more… you get to help make it! Join the conversation https://natimukdusk.blogspot.com.au

“What is Dusk?” Tis part Challenge, part Mystery and a huge Adventure.
Challenge: Under the thoughtful gaze of Y-Space Director Jillian Pearce, we’ve created a form that will take everything we’ve learnt over the years and collaborate with you, our audience, to create a show that reflects YOUR experience of the day!
Mystery: We don’t quite know what that looks like yet cause the content is made during the Nati Frinj Biennale… (Hmm… rest assured, we do have some idea of what we’re doing… just not what your festival experience is ye) which brings us to…
The Huge Adventure! This lies in the collaboration with YOU, our audience and the variety of ways you can shape what we see. How? Maybe an interview with the moon, a play in the shadow capture lab, contribute to the photo gallery, create the poem of the day, gosh even the song of the day or be a special performer plucked from anonymity to a moment of great celebrity! Or just come along and enjoy the show.

But before you get to play with us… we need your help. Dusk has generously received funding from Creative Victoria to create the most simple format of the project which will be great – BUT – we are hoping to raise $20,000 to realise the full dream of Dusk. Funds will be used on production costs ie, an awesome sound and lighting system, greater support for local and invited artists in the delivery of workshops to our community and festival goers. Shadow Play, puppetry, singing, photography, poetry and aerial workshops are planned but we are nothing if not inventive and there may well be further involvement, invitations, offerings and workshops that develop as the festival progresses. Stay Tuned!

With your support we can produce Dusk; a nightly changing performance for three nights of the Nati Frinj Biennale, 3 – 5 November. We invite you to join us and take up the challenge, discover the mystery and be part of the huge adventure that is Dusk 2017.

Before Vivid, White Night, Enlightened and Silo Art Trails, there was the Nati Frinj! Over the 17 year history of the event, Natimuk artists have pioneered large-scale aerial/projection/performance work using Silos as their personal theatre. This year The Nati Frinj Biennale has partnered with Natimuk aerial company Y-Space to bring you Dusk, 3 – 5 November, Natimuk, Vic.

Each night on the cusp of the astronomical twilight the largest stage in the region, the Natimuk silos, will come alive with aerial performance, interactive projections, opera, shadow play, photography and music – a changing performance each night that reflects ‘the day that was’ at the Nati Frinj.

Y-Space Director Jillian Pearce will lead a team of key artists to create the structure of the performance which will also feature Musicians and other performers plucked from the Festival Program.

The key artists are:
• Producer, Artistic Director – Jillian Pearce
• Animator and Projectionist -Dave Jones
• Co producer/ Artist Greg Pritchard
• Shadow and puppet Artist – Mary French
• Y Space Head Rigger – Anthony Schellins and team
• Y Space Aerial Performers – Christy Flaws, Luke O’Conner, Julia Carr and Abby Watkins
• Technical Producer & Lighting Design – Linton Wilkinson
