The first stage is the production and installation of ENTER HERE designed by Suvira McDonald. As an entrance sculpture, it is a large, very colourful, whimsical pole construction that arches over confluent pathways for cyclists and pedestrians. Its location, near the Byron Community College, Post Office, Scout Hall and bus stop forms a nexus of regular daily traffic.
The architectural and engineering technologies required will ensure the sculpture will be an enduring structure for the cultural enrichment of the community for years to come.
This is a strong artistic project. ENTER HERE is an exemplary work, the design of which illustrates ‘site specificity’, underpinning the philosophy of the Sculpture Walk.
The project already has proven support from Byron Shire Council, who have waived the administration fees for the DA, and also from the Mullumbimby Chamber of Commerce who have regularly granted small amounts for the ongoing costs of project development.
The approved DA includes the first sculpture, ENTER HERE, which physically announces the Walk and is the subject of this fundraising campaign.
