#Millenials is a choral music concert, with a program consisting entirely of pieces by young millenials composers (born between 1980 and 2000), local and global. It will be performed by Choral Edge, a choir of young and talented singers who seek to expand the boundaries of choral music and delight audiences through playful, multi-dimensional projects.
This concert will be performed in a local Melbourne venue, and our desire is to offer a performance that engages all senses – including taste! Our dream is to put on a concert over brunch, in order to truly immerse our audiences in an atmosphere that captures (with a touch of irony) the spirit of being a millenial.
However, this project is about more than just putting on a concert. It is incredibly important to celebrate living artists, who continue to push music in new and exciting directions. As a young choir, we see great value in ensuring that there is widespread appreciation of not only what has come before us, but also of what is being created and imagined in the present.
Moreover, it is no secret that young artists can find it difficult to establish themselves. Therefore, we also hope that this concert will help to encourage millenial composers in their endeavours, through the honouring of their work via its live performance. We will also be directly supporting millenial composers through the purchasing of their sheet music.
We are aiming to fundraise $1300 in total. As millenials, we understand that not everybody has the financial capacity to contribute a lot – but every little bit counts!
These donations will be used to ensure that we are able to provide the most beautiful, captivating, and meaningful concert possible. With the money that we receive from donations, we will be funding:
1. Sheet music – we will need funds to ensure that we have a full program of new and exciting music, as performing music by living composers incurs financial costs.
2. Venue – we want to provide a stylish, engaging performance, and this necessitates a high-quality venue.
3. Tickets for composers – we see our concert as a community experience supporting younger artists, and as such, we wish to provide all of our composers with a free opportunity to see their music composed.
Your donations will not be just going towards a concert; they will be going towards a community event, and a movement that will help to keep the arts vibrant and alive.
