Since July 2014, The MGF has been at the forefront of reigniting the classical guitar scene in Melbourne and wider Australia.
These activities have developed into a yearly concert series and annual 3 day festival, which for the first time in 2020 included interstate and regional concert tours.
Immediately after the conclusion of the first-ever Australia wide MGF tour featuring Derek Gripper in Feb/March, which saw 16 concerts presented, due to Covid-19 we were forced to cancel our remaining 2020 concert season which included over 60 pre-planned concerts.
To adapt to this new environment, a livestream concert series was established, but with limited access to professional streaming equipment, it has been not been an ideal situation.
By funding a portable livestream solution, this will enable the MGF to livestream concerts at various locations in Australia. Currently, the MGF has managed livestreaming by remotely connecting to artists computers at their homes and often using their mobile phones as makeshift video cameras. This solution will not work for onsite concerts at venues.
With Covid restrictions set to ease, we plan to return to small physical concert settings beginning in early 2021, and with access to a portable livestreaming solution, this will enable us to present these concerts digitally to all in professional streaming quality. Livestream ticketing will allow these concerts to be financially viable, as physical concerts alone are unlikely to be profitable due to reduced audience attendance.
This will enable us to continue operating and employing Australian musicians throughout 2021 whilst paying artists professional fees.
Donations will be used to cover the costs of upgraded livestream equipment which include: a high performance laptop to enable reliable and portable onsite streaming, upgraded video cameras for multiple high definition angles, ATEM mini pro livestream video switcher and upgraded audio recording equipment.
