The Open Studios (MRROS) project enables artists to meet with and explain their diverse creative processes to an audience of art interested public.
In April this year 108 artists in the Margaret River Region hosted approximately 25,000 visitors to their private creative spaces; visitors who may never before have had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a meaningful engagement with an artist. The MRROS ethos is to expand the reach of artists into the community and to develop a new art appreciative public who may choose to become art buyers. Many of these visitors may previously have been hesitant to enter a public or commercial art gallery.
As the event expands, the Open Studios event is providing a rich networking experience for regional artists, local commercial galleries, the tourism industry, accommodation providers and local government for the benefit of the community at large.
Donating to MRROS through the Australian Cultural Fund will enable MRROS to move from a rather fragile dependence on overworked volunteers to employ some part time staff and help put the event on a surer foundation.
