National Opera is raising funds to produce its inaugural and 2020 major production La Rondine.
La Rondine (The Swallow) is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto by Giuseppe Adami.
National Opera’s production of La Rondine will be produced under the watchful eye of Peter Coleman-Wright AO (Artistic Director) and performed at The Playhouse, Canberra Theatre Centre, in late November 2020.
With the company’s focus on developing local artists, most roles will be filled by local Canberrans and where this is not possible artists from other cities will be offered opportunities to participate.
The project commences in February and continues until after the performances in November 2020.
It is critical that developing and emerging opera artists have opportunities to gain experience in a fully functional and professional opera production in order to pursue a career in opera and the arts.
Under the values of professional, collaborative, inclusive and sustainable, artists will be working with professional creatives including Peter Coleman-Wright AO and others to develop and grow as artists. To provide these opportunities funds are needed.
La Rondine was selected for its vast casting opportunities as well as stunning soundscape that Puccini operas are known for.
We are asking for gifts of around $2,000 – $5,000 to support the project. Gifts can be made in instalments across different financial years; please contact email@example.com for further information.
Among other things, gifts will be used to engage a professional director, conductor, as well as provide paid opportunities for a small number of principal artists. Funds will also contribute to the costs of performance and rehearsal venues, sets, costumes and all the elements that make for a professional production.
National Opera is looking to raise a total of $60,000 toward this project.
