Killa Kafe is the brain child of writer Katherine Honan. Together with producer Tara Jay they developed the idea about a quirky café that kills people and in April 2018 it went into production. It was completed in mid January of 2019 and thus started its journey on the festival circuit.
Shot in the style of a sitcom the project will appeal to lovers of this genre as well as those with a taste for black comedy and musical numbers… a rare and unique combination. Killa Kafe has recently been selected for an amazing festival that runs for 11 days in mid June in LA, and we need your help to get there!!
I Tara the producer, have put my money where my mouth is and have solely funded the entire production and festival circuit of the Killa Kafe series with my savings costing close to $16,000.
The whole team behind Killa Kafe have already done the hard work for deferred contracts and I know we have created a unique and professional series which has also been reiterated by our 6 festival selections resulting in 3 wins over our short 3-month period on the festival circuit. The 6th festival we have been selected for is Dances with Films.
This is a premier festival for independent film makers to be seen playing at the famous Chinese Theatre in LA. It has produced future Oscar, Emmy and Grammy winners. More importantly the festival has a very impressive rate of finding its films distribution and this is key to our goal. Finding an audience for your project is one of the biggest hurdles for any producer therefore it is crucial for the project to be represented in person at the festival and donations obtained through the ACF will be used entirely for this purpose.
Donations will go towards flights and accommodation ONLY for producer Tara Jay to attend the festival.
If I’m fortunate enough to raise more than my goal the remaining funds will be spent on the promotion of the series at the festival in the way of postcards and posters as well as the costs incurred for the show to be screened.
DCP/bluray mastering: $354
Promotional items: $221
My aim in attending is to meet distributors so that the hard work of the creatives involved can be rewarded by their deferred contracts being paid. Also if our show finds an audience, we will have a better chance of creating Season 2 which we already have ideas for.
Thank you so much for your consideration.
