Some of the greatest internationally lauded classical voices in the world come from QLD and AVE want to celebrate that extraordinary tradition and make our mark on the national and international stage, tell our unique stories, celebrate our identity and place through song and establish a long lasting creative legacy for QLD and Australia.
This vocal quartet will consist of Artistic Director and Soprano Katie Noonan (Sunshine Coast), Soprano Greta Bradman (Melb), Baritone Teddy Tahu-Rhodes (Melb/Syd) and Tenor Andrew Goodwin (Syd).
Our repertoire, like our Australian culture, will be a unique blend of the old and the new. The OLD – the glorious spiritual music of the late Renaissance and the early Baroque – the golden age of polyphonic writing. The NEW – modern music of the 20th and 21st Century, with a particular focus on new Australian music. Every performance will be predominantly acapella and every performance will feature new Australian Works and engagement with our First Nations Community through song and language.
AVE is being supported by Creative Partnerships Australia’s ACF Boost program – donations to this campaign will be matched dollar for dollar up to $5,000.
Due to the devastating effects of COVID-19, we have lost almost 100% of our earning income as performing musicians. This Boost initiative will be a huge boost to the AVE journey and allow us to continue to dream the big dream of starting an important new chamber music group in Australia. This Boost fundraising campaign will help to launch phase one of establishing AVE as an independent organisation.
Our AVE outcomes for the coming 4 years are: AVE to be the ensemble in residence at the Queensland Conservatorium from 2021, two major regional tours each year and International touring by year 2023. We would also mentor a local quartet of four up-and-coming Queensland Conservatorium students/alumni and provide performance opportunities for them.
Our plan is to launch AVE – Australian Vocal Ensemble – on Nov 20 2020 in the QLD Conservatorium Theatre. We plan to perform the World Premiere of our 12 piece song cycle featuring the words of revered QLD writer David Malouf, set to music by 12 contemporary Australian composers. This will be the launch of our AVE initiative and will include our 2021 touring programme and our 2021 Queensland Conservatorium Artists in Residency schedule.
Donations raised will be used to contribute towards artists performance fees, travel and accommodation expenses and marketing for our Nov 20 2020 launch concert.
