Junction Arts Festival is an annual event presenting five days and nights of playful performances of art, music and dance in Prince’s Square, Launceston, Tasmania.

Taking place in the first week of Spring, Junction celebrates creativity and community bringing together audiences, artists and art forms that are immersive, accessible and interactive.

We work closely with local, national and international artists to commission, produce and present interactive live arts, participatory and site-specific performances created specifically for Launceston and for an audience of one or 1000 in dance, theatre, live music, literature and installation.

Our focus is on producing community-engaged works created through collaborations with our local communities that place the audience at the centre of the arts experience.

Junction seeks to build the arts in Tasmania through new commissions, artist residencies, training and development for local artists, and foster collaborations that are local, national and international. Junction supports increasing awareness and understanding of contemporary art, and building community development and social cohesion.

Junction works year-round behind the scenes to support artists’ careers, produce events, provide mentoring and training opportunities for local students and young people, expand learning outcomes for children and schools, engage the local community, and promote Launceston, Tasmanian, and Australian artists.

Donations raised in 2018 will go back into the Festival in investing in Tasmanian artists and musicians.

We present artwork in inspiring spaces in our city, with Junction lighting up the iconic Prince’s Square as the Festival Hub. Throughout the seven years of Junction we have unlocked unique spaces including churches, rooftops, bridges, boats and performances on the back of a bike.

Now in its eighth year, Launceston’s Junction Arts Festival is an intimate festival of ‘extraordinary experiences in unusual spaces’, which under Creative Director Greg Clarke and the Junction team, has a new focus on presenting and celebrating the incredible talent of Tasmania’s amazing artists.

Junction’s festival hub in and around the stunning 19thcentury Prince’s Square, features the Fountain Bar showcasing Tasmania’s finest musicians and bands, delicious Tasmanian food and award-winning wines and the Prince’s Palace featuring children’s shows and award-winning cabaret.
Junction is a festival in which contemporary art and music have broken out of the theatres, galleries and music venues and out into the streets, public spaces and extraordinary buildings that make Launceston so special. With its stunning mix of Georgian, Victorian and Art Deco architecture, beautiful 19th century English parks and Cataract Gorge at its doorstep, Launceston is the perfect setting to discover and participate in exciting art and music experiences that you’ll never forget.
