My Journey to Boston

The aim of this project is to raise funds to contribute to the costs of my studies for the Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, USA.

Days Left

I believe music has the transformative power to unite all, and it is through my playing that I hope to achieve this.

The New England Conservatory – one of the world’s leading musical institutions that prepares its students for subsequent careers as internationally renowned performers.

With its highest employability of percussion graduates, some of the world’s finest lecturers, and access to Boston’s most prestigious performance venues and diverse music scene, the New England Conservatory is in my opinion, the premier training ground for an orchestral percussionist such as myself.

In March of this year, I was humbled by being the first Australian percussionist to be accepted into this great institution from which many great musicians have come. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am very excited to be moving to Boston to begin this next chapter in my musical career.

This project will help me raise the necessary funds needed to undertake my studies at the New England Conservatory. Whilst the New England Conservatory has awarded me a scholarship to help cover my tuition costs, there is still a considerable amount to raise to allow myself to study in Boston.

This has been a dream of mine for many years and with your help this dream can finally become reality.

My place at the New England Conservatory is secured and I will be commencing my studies in January 2021. If for unforeseen circumstances I cannot commence in January 2021, my start date will be postponed.

Live Projects

Rohan Zakharia (18), is a bright young classical percussionist who has been awarded a place at the New England Conservatory in Boston, USA, where he will be studying a four-year Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance, commencing January 2021.

Rohan is a graduate of Hale School, where he studied percussion with Joel Bass and Brian Maloney, the Principal Percussionist of WASO. Out of Rohan’s extensive performance opportunities during and post high school, he was most recently the Principal Percussionist in the Australian Youth Orchestra’s Young Symphonists’ Program, Australia’s leading institution for emerging musicians.

Rohan is looking forward to moving to Boston, USA, where he will be afforded the calibre of training that will allow him to achieve his career goals of becoming an Australian performing artist, bringing a new level of experience and expertise to the Australian music scene.
