Dots+Loops is Australia’s post-genre music and arts series, inclusively exploring the spaces in between a traditional classical concert, an underground club gig, and an experimental art show. We take exciting, adventurous and thought-provoking live art of all kinds, and present it in relaxed, accessible urban spaces.

Joining the Dots sees Dots+Loops take our years of expertise in post-genre live arts events and community building, and purpose-curate a new series for easily accessible digital delivery. Across eleven audio podcast episodes, and ten concise digital videos, we will entertain and enrich the lives of numerous audience members through performance, tailored tutorials and conversation.

The Post Social Distancing Social is an opportunity for our local family to celebrate live music in the flesh again, while mitigating ongoing production and health risks by limiting audience numbers and solely sourcing artists from the greater Brisbane area.

We have curated a diverse range of artists to appeal to and benefit our broader Dots+Loops community. From classical and folk performers to DJs and producers, visual artists to writers, from making music with your iPad to drawing otherworldly sounds from a piano, the series has something for everyone at all levels of experience.

Each week Joining the Dots alternates between an audio podcast and a video episode.

Video episodes focus on introducing an artistic technique accessible to anyone—those interested in contemporary arts, but who may or may not yet have hands-on experience. Videos will be available through Dots+Loops’ YouTube Channel and Facebook Watch.

To provide opportunity for more diverse discussion, audio podcast episodes provide a space to get to know an artists in our community and to share knowledge that would not fit into the video, in conversation with members of the Dots+Loops Directors, Kieran Welch, Flora Wong and Connor D’Netto. Podcasts will be available on all major streaming services including Spotify and Apple Music.

It goes without saying that the COVID-19 pandemic has completely upheaved 2020 plans for everyone, Dots+Loops included. It has impacted our society on every level, and caused the most significant changes to everyday life that many people have ever experienced. With widespread social distancing measures, travel restrictions and gathering bans, many regular methods of live artistic performance and education are severely impacted. This includes our initially planned Nonstop 2020 Festival, which had to be cancelled due to the large audience and significant international and national travel that involved. The pandemic has resulted in a significant reduction in arts employment, creation and education, at a time when the arts are needed more than ever.

Through Joining the Dots and the Post-Social-Distancing Social, we will provide employment for forty artists and artsworkers, effectively connecting creators to audiences, and bringing people together through art.

Dots+Loops is Australia’s post-genre music and arts series, inclusively exploring the spaces in between a traditional classical concert, an underground club gig, and an experimental art show. Since 2014, we have presented exciting, adventurous and thought-provoking live art of all kinds, and placed it in relaxed urban spaces. Combined with a passion for community, social equity, and quality over quantity, our shows culminate in a unique performance experience, which has been consistently applauded by critics, audiences and artists alike.

Dots+Loops is a highly collaborative and inclusive series; every performer, composer, artist, audience attendee and support staff member is a part of the Dots+Loops family. Founded in 2014 by Artistic Director and Producer Kieran Welch, this year sees the group evolve into a national partnership, with Allison Wright joining as co-Artistic Director and Producer, and Megan Steller as Director of Education Programs and Marketing.
