Mat Jodrell

On February 20th 2019, I will be recording a new album of original compositions at Wizard Tone Studios in Adelaide. Featuring some of the most exciting voices in Jazz today, this promises to be a very special record.

Days Left

This project enlists the talents of five heavyweights of the world Jazz scene. Featuring 100% original music, this album will showcase Australian music and some of its finest exponents.

The band hails from all over Australia and the globe. After many years based in NYC, myself and Sam Anning now reside in Melbourne. Will Vinson is originally from the UK, but has been based in NYC for 10+ years now. James Muller is based in Adelaide, and Ben Vanderwal in Perth. They will be all converging on South Australia and Wizard Tone Studios to combine their talents for a very special record.

Set for release on May 1st, 2019, this album is well underway. The project still needs support to cover airfares, mixing, mastering, production and marketing costs.

In the realm of Australian music, specifically Jazz, this album promises to be a very important addition to the body of work. The musicians chosen here all exist on the world stage, and getting them all in one room at one time to document new music is a rare feat.

This poses many financial burdens, but all seem insignificant compared to the artistic merit behind making this recording a reality. Getting involved in the project by means of 100% tax deductible donations helps ensure that this music makes it to the world.

The donations raised here will be used to cover airfares, mixing, mastering, production and marketing costs, which are all considerable. The recording itself is already underway, and will take place on February 20th this year at Wizard Tone Studios in Adelaide. The musicians are booked, the music is being written, and the stage is set for one of the most exciting Australian Jazz albums ever made. We would love you to get involved in this important project by making a donation here, and help bring this music to the world, showcasing the strength of Australian music today.

Trumpeter Mat Jodrell is one of the most exciting voices in Jazz today. He has recently returned to Australia after having lived in New York City for the past eight years, performing around the city and teaching at the prestigious Juilliard School of Music.

During his time in the States, Mat was a regular member of many ensembles including Miguel Zenon’s ‘Identities’ Ensemble, Ryan Truesdell’s Gil Evans Project (both Grammy nominated in 2016), Lucas Pino’s No Net Nonet, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Miho Hazama’s M-Unit, Pedro Giraudo’s Expansions Ensemble, Jon Batiste Band, the Birdland Big Band and many others.

Since re-locating to the US Mat has had the opportunity to perform with the likes of Benny Golson, Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Branford Marsalis, Carl Allen, Bill Watrous and Gary Bartz to name but a few. He has performed in many of the world’s most famous jazz clubs in New York City including the Vanguard, Blue Note, Dizzy’s and Birdland, as well as touring to many of the largest festivals including the Newport Jazz Festival.

Mat recently released ‘Echoes Of Harlem’ recorded in NYC with Frank Kimbrough, Jay Anderson and Lewis Nash to rave reviews. He is also currently on faculty at the James Morrison Academy.
