I aspire to be a professional bassoonist. I want to play in the best Symphony Orchestras in Australia and around the world. My goal is to not only develop my musicianship and my technique, but to learn how to really connect with people through music.
I believe that the best way to take my playing to this next level is to take up an offer to study with Professor George Sakakeeny at the Eastman School of Music, in Rochester, NY. The video above outlines my bassoon development so far, and tells you a little bit more about Eastman. My teachers and mentors here in Australia think that joining Professor Sakakeeny’s studio is an essential stage in my development.
My plan will always be to come back to Australia – to perform, to teach and to be a part of the vibrant music community which this country offers. However, for now, I need to go overseas to learn new things and to experience a broader musical education.
I have been fortunate to be offered 3 different scholarships totalling $45,000 USD to attend Eastman in the fall. However, there is still a gap of $30,000 USD each year. Despite the contributions from my family and what I have been able to earn and save, there is still a shortfall in the university tuition and residential living fees of $20,000 AUD each year. With your support, I will be able to accept this amazing opportunity to reach my potential as a bassoonist.
