THTDB is a female focused arts and community collective that works in 3 streams.
TOY CHOIR: a culturally diverse cross age choir of girls aged 10-18 who write their own compositions.
PRODUCTION: (a cross age ensemble of 16 aged 12-45 year old women who create one major, and one minor work each year, last year selling out an independent 2 week season)
AKIN: a national project aim at girls aged 10-18, 1 day workshops across the country for 30 participants identified by their local community.
We have had an incredibly successful first year and to keep the momentum going we have identified needing a General Manager with strategic planning and strong producing skills to generate and implement the company’s growing repertoire and artistic aspirations.
We are looking to fund this part time role for 12 months.
The House that Dan Built is committed to creating a platform for Australian female voices. We activate spaces where women artists and girls with passion create work responding to female narratives across the generations, cultures and regions of the Australian landscape.
We bring women and girls together to build on provocations drawn from the community in the form of interviews, personal histories, observations, images and sound recordings; addressing struggle without anger and counteracting the darkest aspects of female experience with the shared delight of impromptu community engagement.
We produce outcomes on every scale: instagram post, hand-held projection, one-to-one performance, flash mob or installation while substantial stories with big impacts are shared in large-audience venues. By sharing skills and experiences we seek to address feelings of separateness between rural and city women and tell an integrated story of Australian women with diverse voices.
We provide peer-to-peer mentorship to newer participants allowing skills to be widely disseminated with limited resources. THTDB’s Toy Choir opened Mardi Gras 2016,, played in the 2017 Sydney Festival and regularly engage across generations composing songs with patients in nursing homes and children’s hospitals. Recent production, Tender Young Creatures, addressing the fear women and girls are given of night, played a sold-out two-week season!
$35,748 will cover a mid level GM for two days a week for 12 months.
