Lovely Lady Lump is a show about surviving Breast Cancer that has won multiple awards around the world for its unashamed, blunt and comic view of the cancer experience. This time, it is travelling to 6 different festivals in Canada, as the only Australian show to win the coveted CAFF tour, where 197 shows applied.
The project is now collaborating with Dense Breasts Canada to raise awareness of the policies surrounding breast density in BOTH CANADA AND AUSTRALIA. Dense breasts with over 50% density completely mask cancers in mammograms and thus many cancers are missed. Policy here and in Canada says not to tell women of their density, thereby not giving women the autonomy and choice about whether to elect for an ultrasound.
Little did I know, when I started doing the show, that the story would have such a highly charged issue behind it. But that’s the thing about comedy and theatre – you can get information across to people when they don’t even realise it.
The tour will essentially cost a minimum $10,000 in festival fees, travel costs and marketing, but I am requesting $5000 through the ACF.
Donations will be used to offset the cost of touring:
Flights, baggage fees and freight, petrol, Transfers, festival fees, stage manager fees and marketing is just the tip of the iceberg for the touring artist.
None of it will be wasted. It is all needed.
